The French Public Higher Schools of Art

Orléans

École supérieure d’art et de design d’Orléans

about

In an economic context, in full upheaval, the École Supérieure d’Art et de Design d’Orléans / ESAD (previously IAV) opens itself to new professions of creation and contemporary design, this so as to provide all of the possibilities available to students to lead substantial personal research, over three or five years in the establishment, and to prepare their careers.

The visual and graphic design section is supported by a fixed image department (photo) and an animated image department (cinema/video) and a graphic design/publishing department; the object/space design is supported by a volume/model department. Connections are made between the two sections; transversal projects, encounters, common workshops facilitating permeability and alternatively privileging moments of individual work and communal oeuvres. The transversal studios in drawing, representation, computer design and multimedia contribute to this, along with the General Culture studio that proposes communal lectures.

The Orléans ESAD is an art school clearly geared towards design, applied to our living environment, from graphic design to photography, from furniture to industrial products.

research units

ECOLAB

ÉSAD Orléans «ÉCOLAB» research unit, supported by the ministry of Culture and Communication, is dedicated to structuring, orienting and developing programs and research projects, from signs to space, in relation with research institutes at a regional, national and international level. The general orientation of ÉCOLAB is defined by an ecological reflection in the large sense (environmental, social, technique, mental) resting on the idea that any conception, production, and exchange activity is defined by a set of relations where each element of the system has an influence on all the others. It is more clearly about understanding how design, as a form of thought and rational creation, can enlighten, deepen and transform the way in which ecology and digital technology determine contemporary human life. According to such a perspective, ecology and digital technology are not considered as simple themes but as new research conditions similar to experience, creation and society.
